In June 2024 we deep cleaned the sidewalks, curbs and courtyard concrete around Building B at Georgia Piedmont Technical College's Newton campus in Covington with 200-degree water, and cleaned the underside of the picnic-area awning.
The property
Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s Newton campus is on Alcovy Road in Covington. The area we cleaned is around Building B: long concrete walkways, a sidewalk along the red-curbed fire lane, a courtyard picnic area under a metal awning, and patios with benches.
The job
We walked the site with the campus maintenance supervisor on May 1, 2024, then sent a map of the cleaning area for the college to confirm. The scope was all of the concrete flatwork and curb between Buildings A and B, plus the awning over the Building B courtyard picnic area.
- Concrete deep cleaning: concrete cleaner, 200-degree hot water to remove gum, and a surface cleaner, then a high-pressure rinse
- Awning cleaning: the underside of the courtyard awning, cleaned of dirt, algae and mildew
The crew finished on the night of June 4, 2024, and we sent the college before and after photos the next morning. The college then flagged a few spots that needed more work ahead of a campus event. The crew went back on June 11, finished them and walked the site with campus maintenance.
The result
The photos above show the same walkways before and after. The dark staining on the split walkway and on the sidewalk along the fire lane is gone, and the concrete is an even light tan again. As our estimate said up front, rust, oil stains and tire marks are cleaned but cannot always be fully removed.
This was our second job for the college that year, after a building wash at its Paul M. Starnes Center in Clarkston in April.
